About the FORUM

The FORUM is a place to collaborate with your sport governance peers, discuss issues and challenges, share ideas and insights, and learn.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help each other as sport governors and directors to learn and grow; to strengthen our sport organizations through the promotion and adoption of good governance practices.

“…we're going to take a look at that, what are the best governance practices for all sport federations. So, after that, when we set new expectations and new criteria to obtain federal funding, I need to make sure that Sport Canada can evaluate properly whether they have met those requirements or not, so that we can then adjust our policy with these federations.”

— Pascal St-Onge, Minister of Sport, interview with SportsNet, August 1, 2022.

The FORUM aims to provide:

  • A platform to promote awareness of the importance of good sport governance

  • Regular webinars featuring subject matter experts on governance best practices and current governance issues

  • Working groups, to examine issues and challenges and develop solutions

  • Networking opportunities

  • An annual conference

  • Governance training and education opportunities

  • Access to governance tools, like time-saving templates and model processes that support best practices

The Forum on Good Sport Governance will launch programming in Q1 2023. Right now, volunteers are working to build the Forum’s programs and membership. Join us and contribute your expertise to the success of the Forum.

I want to join the conversation

“ We reiterate the vital importance of proper governance and a prioritization of a safe environment for our members and all national team athletes moving forward.”

— AthletesCAN

Athletes achieve excellence by adopting a growth mindset and a drive for continuous self-improvement. As sport directors and governors, we have a parallel obligation to learn and develop our governance knowledge and skills, to better serve the best interests of our organization and its stakeholders.
